A new version of CIS is due for release in the Spring of 2005 (Version 8.0). A user-survey has been carried out in order to identify issues to be addressed in the improved user-interface of v8.0. The survey evaluation was carried out in the field at the user’s own work environment. The technique used to conduct the evaluation was ‘user observation’ and three sets of users with different levels of competency and CIS experience were assessed:
- First time users of the system - have never seen or used the system although they may be aware of its existence.
- Infrequent users – have used the system before but either infrequently or no longer use it.
- Expert users – use the software on a regular basis and can use it with a high level of proficiency.
This has informed the future direction of CIS and will form the basis of the development for v8.0. A further news item will be posted in spring to confirm the availability of v8.0.
